It also has an outstanding safety profile.

How does Coolsculpting work?

Coolsculpting is a non-invasive procedure that selectively reduces fat cells without damaging other cells and tissues. CoolSculpting is the brand name behind a scientific process called Cryplipolysis upon which CoolSculpting is based.

The science of Coolsculpting arose originally out of the observation that when fat is exposed to cold it can selectively be reduced. This was seen in the fact that some children who ate large numbers of popsicles developed dimples. Women horseback riding in cold and damp conditions were also seen to have fat reduction. Further study at Harvard’s Massachusettes General Hospital was able to develop the Crylipolysis technology behind CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting cools fat cells to temperatures that trigger a process called “apoptosis”. Apoptosis is the scientific term for when a cell triggers it’s own controlled death. It happens throughout the body in various organs every day when cells have served their purpose and it is time for new cells to take over. There is no damage to to structures such as nerves or muscles as the lipids in fat cells crystallise at a warmer temperature than the water which is present in other cell types.

After the CoolSculpting treatment fat cells are gradually removed by the body’s own immune system. This process can take weeks to months depending on the volume of fat which needs to be removed by the body.*
