General

• Avoid bending, lifting, or vigorous activity for 2 weeks

• No strenuous work, exercise or sport for 2 weeks – you may do some gentle walking

• Over the first 2 weeks you will feel quite tired and run down

• Avoid Airplane travel for 2 weeks following surgery

• There are no dietary restrictions and you may eat as soon as food is tolerated Care of your Browlift wound

• If not done at the hospital, please remove your bandage 48hrs following surgery

• Avoid washing your hair for the first 3 days. You may towel wash your face

• Apply Chlorsig ointment to the wound twice daily for 2 weeks Bleeding

• There may be some minor ooze from the skin wounds in the first 24hrs following your surgery. Please call if bleeding persists.

 

Pain & Discomfort

• The maximum discomfort will occur the first 48hrs following surgery. You may experience some headaches. Take the pain medication as prescribed

• You will feel numbness over your brow wound and top of your scalp. This may persist for several months Appearance

• Bruising and swelling is to be expected around the eyes and face. This may be quite significant in the first week.

• Most bruising settles by 2 weeks following surgery. Minor swelling can persist for up to 3 months

• You may have slightly more swelling in the mornings

• Brow scars may initially appear irregular, lumpy and red, this can take 3-6months to completely settle.

 

When to call the Doctor

• If you have any extreme swelling or bruising that is not settling

• If you have persistent pain not relieved by the medication or if pain is increasing rather than decreasing

• If you feel your vision is deteriorating, have double vision or persistent blurred vision

• Elevated temperature over 38°C • Any persistent bleeding from the separation of wound edges.

 

Follow up Care

• Your follow-up appointment will be between 5-7 days following your surgery

 

Medications

• Chlorsig Eye Ointment: Apply to brow with a cotton bud 2 times a day. Continue for 2 weeks

• Panadol or Panadeine Forte: take 1-2 tabs as required (maximum 4 times a day).
• Avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen (Nurofen) • Antibiotics: please take as directed

 

If you are concerned at any time after your surgery, please contact Dr Roth’s rooms on (02) 9982 3439 or via email on [email protected]. If it is out of business hours and you need urgent care, please attend your nearest emergency department or GP.

 

If your surgery was performed at Castlecrag Private Hospital or North Shore Private Hospital you may also contact the ward nursing staff who are there 24hrs a day. Note that these hospitals do not have an emergency department and cannot provide assistance in person in the case of emergencies once you have left the hospital. You cannot return to the ward you were discharged home from and be re-admitted.
