Medications to Avoid

Dr Jason Roth (MED0001185485) — Specialist Otolaryngologist & Head and Neck Surgeon, specialist registration in Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery.

The medications and supplements listed below should be ceased at least two weeks before surgery, as they increase the risk of bleeding during and after the procedure. Please check this list carefully. If you are unsure whether it is safe to stop any medication — particularly any medication prescribed for your heart, blood vessels, or stroke prevention — please contact your GP or the prescribing specialist before stopping it. Do not stop blood-thinning medications without medical guidance.

If you are taking warfarin, apixaban (Eliquis), rivaroxaban (Xarelto), dabigatran (Pradaxa), clopidogrel, or any other anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, do not stop without speaking to your GP or prescribing specialist first. A management plan for perioperative anticoagulation will be arranged in consultation with Dr Roth.
