Brow Lift Post Operative Care

Dr Jason Roth (MED0001185485) — Specialist Otolaryngologist & Head and Neck Surgeon, specialist registration in Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery.

All cosmetic surgery involves risks and individual results vary. Cosmetic surgery is a serious decision. Decisions about whether to proceed should be made after careful consideration and following at least two consultations with a qualified medical practitioner.

This page provides post-operative instructions for patients who have had brow lift surgery with Dr Roth. Please read it carefully before your operation.

General Activity

  • Avoid bending, lifting, or vigorous activity for two weeks
  • No strenuous work, exercise, or sport for two weeks; gentle walking is permitted
  • Avoid air travel for two weeks following surgery
  • No dietary restrictions — eat as soon as food is tolerated

Wound Care

If not removed at the hospital, remove your bandage 48 hours after surgery. Avoid washing your hair for the first three days; you may towel-wash your face. Apply Chlorsig ointment to the wound twice daily for two weeks using a cotton bud.

Pain and Discomfort

Maximum discomfort occurs in the first 48 hours. Some headaches are common. Take pain medication as prescribed. Numbness over the brow wound and top of the scalp is expected and may persist for several months — this is normal.

Appearance

Bruising and swelling around the eyes and face is expected, particularly in the first week. Most bruising settles by two weeks; minor swelling can persist for up to three months. Brow scars may initially appear irregular, lumpy, and red — this can take three to six months to fully settle.

Medications

  • Chlorsig Eye Ointment: apply to brow with a cotton bud twice daily for two weeks
  • Panadol or Panadeine Forte: one to two tablets as required, maximum four times per day
  • Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen (Nurofen)
  • Take any prescribed antibiotics as directed

When to Contact Dr Roth

  • Extreme swelling or bruising that is not settling
  • Persistent pain not relieved by medication, or pain that is worsening
  • Any change in vision, double vision, or persistent blurred vision
  • Temperature over 38°C
  • Any persistent bleeding or wound separation

Follow-up

Your follow-up appointment will be between five and seven days following surgery for suture removal.
