Skin Lesion Removal

Dr Jason Roth (MED0001185485) — Specialist Otolaryngologist & Head and Neck Surgeon, specialist registration in Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery.
Please note: Dr Roth’s current practice is focused on rhinoplasty, facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty, brow lift, and related facial surgery. He is no longer accepting new referrals for skin lesion removal. Patients requiring skin lesion assessment or removal should speak with their GP about an appropriate referral — to a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or general surgeon depending on the nature of the lesion.

The post-operative care instructions below are retained for existing patients who have had skin lesion removal with Dr Roth.

Post-Operative Care — Skin Lesion Removal

If your wound is covered with Steri-Strips

Do not disturb the Steri-Strips. They are intended to remain in place until your follow-up appointment. Keep them covered when bathing or showering. If they fall off early, follow the wound care instructions below.

Wound Care Without Steri-Strips

You will need your prescribed antibiotic ointment, cotton-tipped applicators, and soap and water. Twice daily, use a cotton-tipped applicator to gently remove any dry blood or crusting from around the sutures. Apply antibiotic ointment over the wound. After 48 hours the wound edges are waterproof — you may gently sponge the area when bathing, pat it dry, and reapply the ointment.

Attend your follow-up appointment on the day arranged to have sutures removed. Your pathology report will be discussed with you at that appointment.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen are appropriate for post-operative pain management. Take as needed.

If You Have a Skin Graft

Your skin graft will be covered with a gauze dressing which must remain in place until your first post-operative visit. For the donor site, apply the same twice-daily cleaning and antibiotic ointment routine described above.
