Neck Lift Post Operative Care

This page provides post-operative instructions for patients who have had neck lift surgery with Dr Roth. The instructions are the same as for facelift surgery. Please read them carefully before your operation.

Key Instructions Summary
- Wear the compression headband/neck wrap continuously for one week, then at night for two further weeks
- Keep head and shoulders elevated at 45 degrees for the first ten days
- Apply cold compresses for 20 minutes per hour while awake for the first three days
- Clean incisions with diluted hydrogen peroxide; apply antibiotic ointment as directed
- No massage of the face or neck for six weeks
- No strenuous activity for two weeks; gentle walking from week two
- Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, Vitamin E, and herbal medications
- Avoid sun exposure for one month; SPF 30+ on all incision areas
- No hair colouring for six weeks
Sutures are removed at five to seven days (front of ear, under chin) and nine to ten days (remaining). You will be seen the day or second day after surgery for dressing removal.
