About the Hospital

Wyvern Private Hospital is Sydney’s newest private surgical and rehabilitation facility, opened in December 2024 after a decade of planning and more than two years of construction. The project — valued at over $100 million — was conceived and driven by its founder, neurosurgeon Dr William Sears, who sought to recreate the character of patient care that had defined the former Dalcross Hospital in Killara: a smaller, highly personal clinical environment where the relationship between patients and the treating team is given the same priority as technical excellence. The hospital’s motto — “Care Without Compromise” — reflects this founding philosophy.

Construction began in April 2022 by builder Hacer Group to a design by architect Bureau SRH. The resulting facility is striking: three pavilion-style buildings connected by landscaped courtyards, nestled within a four-hectare bushland site in Duffys Forest at Terrey Hills. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout — including the operating theatres — connect the clinical environment to the natural landscape. The hospital is the first in Australia to target the WELL Gold Building Standard, an international benchmark that assesses buildings for their impact on human health and wellbeing. In 2025, it won the Master Builders NSW Award for Health Buildings (New, up to $100M) and the Urban Developer Award for Excellence in Sustainability.

The hospital is funded by the Australian Unity Healthcare Property Trust — a $3.6 billion fund established in 1999 — under a 30-year lease to Wyvern Health, the operator. It was formally opened by Dr Sophie Scamps MP (Member for Mackellar) and Jacqui Scruby MP (Member for Pittwater).

About the Hospital

North Shore Private Hospital is Ramsay Health Care’s flagship Australian facility and one of the most comprehensively equipped private hospitals in the country. It opened in 1998 on Westbourne Street, St Leonards — directly adjacent to Royal North Shore Hospital on Sydney’s lower North Shore — and has undergone staged expansion ever since. The original build comprised 12 operating theatres, 230 beds, birthing suites, an ICU, a coronary care unit, and on-site imaging. Subsequent expansions have brought the hospital to its current scale: 313 beds across all disciplines, 17 operating theatres, and private single-room accommodation for all patients.

North Shore Private is accredited as a University of Sydney teaching hospital and is involved in nationally and internationally significant clinical research programmes. It was among the first private hospitals in Australia to offer robotic surgery (the Da Vinci system for ENT, urology, cardiac and general surgery, and the MAKO system for orthopaedics), as well as hybrid theatre technology, computer-assisted surgery, and a cardiac catheter laboratory with a structural heart programme performing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Its specialties span virtually the full breadth of surgical and medical disciplines: orthopaedics, obstetrics, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, vascular, ENT, plastics, oncology, urology, and intensive care.

The St Leonards precinct has a long association with major hospital infrastructure — the adjacent Royal North Shore Hospital traces its own origins to the North Shore Cottage Hospital, which opened on 18 June 1888 with fourteen beds to serve the residents of the lower North Shore. North Shore Private occupies a more recent chapter of that same tradition, bringing private surgical capacity to this established hospital corridor.

Facilities

Surgical

17 operating theatres. Hybrid theatre. Robotic surgery (Da Vinci, MAKO). Cardiac catheter laboratory. 313 beds — all private single rooms.

Critical Care

Intensive care unit. Coronary care unit. High-dependency unit. Neonatal and maternity services with LDR birthing suites.

Diagnostic

On-site radiology, pathology, and pharmacy. 3D surgical technology. Medical suites building with specialist consulting rooms.

Dr Roth at North Shore Private

Dr Roth has held credentials at North Shore Private Hospital throughout his surgical career. He uses the hospital for ENT surgical procedures, facial plastic surgery, and more complex head and neck cases that benefit from the hospital’s ICU capability, specialist anaesthetic services, and comprehensive post-operative nursing support. The hospital’s experienced ENT theatre staff and the availability of advanced imaging on-site make it particularly well suited to complex sinus surgery, revision rhinoplasty, and other procedures requiring the full resources of a major private surgical centre.

About the Hospital

Castlecrag Private Hospital has one of the most distinctive histories of any surgical facility in Sydney. Its origins trace to 1927, when Dr Edward William Rivett purchased the King O’Malley House — a property on the corner of Edinburgh Road and Sortie Port that had been designed by the American architect Walter Burley Griffin, the celebrated designer of Canberra, as part of his visionary Castlecrag estate development. Dr Rivett converted the house into a private hospital, named it “Cabarisha” after a Gaelic word, and subsequently commissioned Griffin himself to design extensions that expanded the facility to twenty beds.

The hospital flourished for decades as a family practice — Dr Rivett’s sister, Dr Amy Christine Rivett, assisted from her Northbridge practice, and his sons Ronald and Howard later joined as medical practitioners. Post-war extensions along Edinburgh Road added obstetrics capacity, and many Castlecrag residents of that era were born at Cabarisha. Following the deaths of Edward and Christine Rivett in 1962, Ronald and Howard continued the practice before selling to external owners in 1970, at which point the hospital assumed its current name.

Today, Castlecrag Private Hospital is an intimate, well-regarded surgical facility situated on Sydney’s lower North Shore, surrounded by the character architecture and Middle Harbour bushland setting that makes the Castlecrag peninsula distinctive. It offers progressive, personalised care with a particular focus on ENT surgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, and general surgery. The hospital does not have an emergency department and is not equipped to provide emergency care after discharge — patients are directed to Royal North Shore Hospital in the event of any post-operative emergency.

Facilities

Surgical

Day surgery and inpatient surgical beds. Operating theatres for ENT, plastics, orthopaedic, gynaecological, and general surgical cases.

Setting

Boutique private hospital in Middle Harbour bushland setting. Character buildings on an historic site. Water views from selected rooms. Tranquil recovery environment.

Important Note

No emergency department. In the event of any post-operative concern after discharge, patients should attend Royal North Shore Hospital emergency or call 000. Dr Roth’s rooms should also be contacted.

Dr Roth at Castlecrag

Dr Roth uses Castlecrag for day surgery and inpatient ENT and facial plastic surgery procedures. The hospital’s experienced ENT nursing staff, its intimate scale, and its location on the North Shore make it a convenient and well-suited facility for procedures that do not require the full resources of a major hospital — including selected sinus surgery cases, myringoplasty, and day-case facial plastic surgery.

Pittwater Day Surgery

Dr Jason Roth — Pittwater Day Surgery Mona Vale
Dr Jason Roth Northern Beaches ENT

About the Facility

Pittwater Day Surgery is a privately owned, accredited day surgery facility located at Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It was conceived by ENT surgeon Dr Frank Elsworth in collaboration with the NSW Department of Health to provide a high-quality surgical facility serving the Northern Beaches community — a substantial population that had previously been underserved by local day surgery infrastructure. The facility has been operating since 2000 and has treated more than 15,000 patients across its surgical programme.

In 2018, Pittwater Day Surgery underwent a significant expansion and renovation — upgrading from one to three operating theatres and adding new services including endoscopy, urology, and gynaecology. The facility is fully licensed by NSW Health and carries full ISO accreditation and compliance with the 10 National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. The building also houses over fifty medical specialist consulting rooms, creating a genuine hub of specialist medical care on the Northern Beaches peninsula.

ENT surgery has been a cornerstone of the facility from its founding, reflecting the origins of the project and the substantial ENT surgical needs of the Northern Beaches population. The facility is licensed to treat patients from 12 months of age, making it appropriate for paediatric ENT procedures including grommet insertion, tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy alongside the adult surgical programme.

Facilities

Surgical

Three operating theatres. Day surgery and recovery facilities. Paediatric surgical licence (patients from 12 months). ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, dental, orthopaedic, endoscopy, urology, and gynaecology.

Location

Mona Vale, Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Free on-site parking. Close to the Dee Why consulting rooms. Convenient for patients from Dee Why, Narrabeen, Newport, Avalon, and the Pittwater peninsula.

Important Note

Day surgery only — no overnight inpatient beds. No emergency department. Post-operative emergency presentations should be directed to Mona Vale Hospital emergency or Royal North Shore Hospital.

Dr Roth at Pittwater Day Surgery

Pittwater Day Surgery is Dr Roth’s preferred Northern Beaches facility for day surgery ENT procedures, particularly for patients who live on the Northern Beaches and prefer not to travel to the North Shore for their operation. Procedures performed here include grommet insertion (adults and children), myringoplasty, sinus surgery, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and selected day-case nasal procedures. The proximity to the Dee Why consulting rooms means that pre- and post-operative appointments and the surgery itself are all accessible within the same area for most Northern Beaches patients.
